New Authority for earthquake recovery
The Government has today announced further details on the establishment of the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA). The purpose of the new Authority is to deliver a coordinated rebuilding and recovery effort for Christchurch and the wider region.
CERA will work in collaboration with the Christchurch City Council, and with the Waimakariri and Selwyn District Councils on the development of the "Long Term Recovery Strategy" and all recovery plans. CERA will have wide powers to relax, suspend or extend laws for earthquake recovery purposes.
Christchurch City Council is also taking the lead in the development of a mandatory "Recovery Plan for the Christchurch Central Business District". This plan has to be produced within nine months. The plan will have input from CERA, Ngai Tahu, and community engagement as led by Christchurch City Council.
